British banker left 8,500 miles from home after getting on wrong flight

A British banker trying to fly home to Essex says he boarded the wrong plane and ended up in Las Vegas – despite airport staff checking his boarding pass three times.
Samuel Janowsky was booked on to a Eurowings flight to Stansted after meetings in Cologne but had a shock when he realised his plane was headed for Las Vegas.
The 29-year-old was asleep on the jet before he woke up to discover from the in-flight tracker that his plane had passed the UK, The Times reported.
When he asked a fellow passenger where the plane was going, he was stunned to find out it was heading to the US - 8,500 miles from home.
He flew back to Cologne but said he had been banned by Eurowings so had to travel to Stuttgart for a flight home.
“How could I have boarded the aircraft without a valid boarding pass for that flight? Staff checked my boarding pass three times.
“The whole experience not only cost me time but also I am €878.66 out of pocket for the food, hotel and flight home,” he told the Times.
A spokesman for Eurowings said: “The passenger had passed through passenger control and the identification documents had been properly checked by the federal police. Due to an error by a service provider’s employee, the passenger managed to board the long-haul flight. According to authorities and Eurowings, at no time was there any safety risk.
